The kid was tall with dirty brown hair and a missing tooth. But it didn’t hinder the bright smile that spread across his face as he sang. His fingers moved with practiced ease on the strings of his guitar and Harvey couldn’t pull his eyes away from the sight before him. He could feel his chest tightening with something akin to long forgotten emotion, his face heating up as the Kid winked at the crowd and let out a giddy laugh. Somewhere in the back of his mind he could hear the warning bells, the fallout sirens telling him to run as far and fast as he could, back to New York, as far away from Kilrush as possible.
Instead of listening, he waited till the kid had finished his set, before approaching him at the bar and buying him a drink.
_____
An AU where Harvey chased Scottie to London in a fit of panic and when he realizes there’s no way of winning her back, Jessica sends him to Ireland as a punishment, to handle a rather eccentric client who’s thinking of buying a massive amount of land outside Kilrush. He’s meant to be there two weeks, but Jessica makes it clear that he’s to take as much time as needed to close the client and sort himself out.
He meets his client for drinks in one of the local pubs one evening and he catches sight of the band setting up on the far side of the room. His client finishes his drink and bids him goodnight, leaving him with his stout to watch the band play. The two young men leading the group, one with dark hair and devilish eyes, the other tall, freckled, and grinning from ear to ear, lead the whole bar in a wide array of classic songs and Harvey discovers he might just have a thing for the accent, if not the passion behind the voice and the way the freckled, blue eyed kid with the missing tooth catches his gaze from across the room.
Cue two weeks of mayhem, shenanigans, and Harvey trying to win Mike’s affections.
The song Mike is singing is Leaving of Liverpool.
